GoodOD - Good Ontology Design

Managing and processing large data-sets has become a common task for researchers in the medical and biological field as well as for health care professionals. The abundance of cheap computing resources has led to an expontential growth in the amount of knowledge accumulated. This growth has been accompanied by an equal proliferation of models for structuring and  representing medical and biological information.

Ensuring comparability, consistency, and unity of that information is a daunting task: The DFG-funded project "GoodOD" brings together knowledge specialists from the humanities and computer sciences with domain specialists to investigate the benefits of formal reasoning about medical and biological facts to achieve this goal in the creation and maintenance of ontologies and classification systems in the topic domain.
